"...And then the great Kami gave life to the world with a breath that created the spirits that would go on to make up all the living things, plants, animals, people, with only the request that they rejoice in Kami's love for them and become diligent and good as Kami wanted them to be..."

Zech shuffled uncomfortably on his seat, he wanted to go home. It was Sunday, he'd be back in Preschool tomorrow, he didn't want to waste his time at home. There were people to play with and things to do, and instead he was stuck in church with his parents and irritatingly perfect older brother who was practically mouthing along with the sermon.

Grandma had said going to this place was a waste of time, there was no such thing as Kami, he was just a made up story that adults liked to believe. Which was the reason they acted so smug or defensive whenever you asked them about it, it was just because they needed to convince themselves because they knew there was no evidence to support their ideas.

"Sit still Zechariah" his mother whispered urgently as the brown haired boy began kicking the bench in front of him.

He wasn't happy about it, but Zech fell still, choosing instead to yawn obviously and loudly. If he annoyed his parents enough, perhaps they wouldn't take him back to church again next Sunday.
